In February, FVB and Alfa Laval, supported by the Green Transition Initiative and the Swedish embassy in the USA, brought together key industry figures in Washington, D.C., to discuss the energy solutions of the future.

The panel discussions held at the embassy were based on experience from the Swedish energy system, focusing on the recovery of waste heat and strategic planning. FVB’s Scott Emery from the Washington office and Stefan Ellmin of FVB Sweden represented the FVB group.

The discussions continued at the IDEA Campus Energy 2026 conference, where about 1300 delegates shared their experiences of completed and ongoing energy projects.

One of the projects highlighted was how Markham District Energy and FVB developed a large-scale wastewater heat recovery plant using heat pumps, which was presented by FVB’s Sandra Yee. The system is designed to produce 19 MW of heating and 13 MW of cooling to the local district heating grid when commissioned in 2026.
